Making Money is a Skill: Here’s How You Can Master It
We live in a society where we are told what to do from birth.
Go to school, read books to pass a project or an exam, graduate, serve the country (if you are a Nigerian like me), and get a job.
This is by no means a bad thing, but it becomes harmful when we reach adulthood and fail to question some of these things or beliefs because we will probably pass on the same philosophy to our children.
This same philosophy applies to our relationship with money.
Growing up, many of us believed that to be wealthy (have a lot of money), you either had to be a secret cult member, be a politician (stealing public funds), or engage in the wrong business of duping people of their hard-earned money.
Because of this mentality, many of us, including our parents, were okay with making little money as long as we survived (stuck in the survival trap).
The point I am trying to make here is that:
Money problems don’t exist. Psychological problems do.
Let’s face it.
Money is important.
You can’t think about your well-being without thinking about money. You can’t think about your health without acknowledging the benefit of cash. You can’t think about the good life without appreciating money.
Money is a resource. It is a tool for freedom. It is the compass of your way out of poverty.
“Most people’s inability to make, keep, or smartly use money comes down to their beliefs because your beliefs determine the opportunities you can notice to do those things. –Dan Koe”
What you believe determines your reality, and your reality is your today; your reality is your NOW, what is in front of you and what you have control of.
If you believe money-making is hard, it will be hard for you.
If you believe money is evil, then you will avoid pursuing making more money.
If you believe every big business/corporation is taking advantage of the less privileged, you will likely not start a business.
If you don’t believe money making is a skill, you won’t learn it.
Every one of these beliefs influences how much money you make.
Making money is a skill. Managing money is a skill. Multiplying money is also a skill.
Every level of money requires some form of awareness.
What is money?
Money is any medium of exchange. I know you know this.
Whatever you have that you can exchange for what you need is money and not necessarily paper currency or cards.
The exchange of value in the labour market is what translates to money. This can be your skill, your time or your experience.
Money only flows in the direction and exchange for value. The level of problem you solve determines the level of money you have. People only pay you for the problem you solve.
Money is a reward for solving a problem.
- Solving small problems equals small money
- Solve medium problem equals medium money
- Solve big problem equals big money
- Solve national problems equals national money
- Solve global problems equals global money
The Solution
The question I’d like to ask you is, what do you have? What are you exchanging for money? What value are you creating? What skill have you built?
Money is more spiritual than you think.
Money making is not luck. I’m not referring to the money you make from inheritance or the kind you make from winning a lottery.
If you want to make more money, significantly as the world is advancing at a rapid pace, ask yourself some simple questions:
- What do I do for a living?
- What problems do I solve, and how well?
- Are my skills in high demand, and am I proficient?
- Am I fully pursuing opportunities or just wasting time?
- Do I effectively communicate my values to the world?
- Am I staying current in my industry or relying on old skills?
You are doing well if less than 40% of your answers are NO. Keep up the good work, but continue to seek growth.
If 40% – 60% of your answers are NO, this suggests you are on the right track but could benefit from targeted improvements. Identify areas where you fall short and develop a plan to address them.
Suppose 60% or more of your answers are NO; ha! This is a red alert; this is an emergency. Stop whatever you are doing and focus on improving yourself.
This assessment is critical because we are concerned about a sustainable way of making money, and that can only happen when you understand the importance of building value for yourself because you are the most profitable niche.
Those who solve today’s problems will survive today, and those who solve tomorrow’s problems today will secure their future.
The best place to build value for yourself is the Internet, an ocean filled with endless resources.
You can learn anything for free. The only things you need are your determination and access to the Internet.
Everyone should learn tech. It needn’t be the core technical aspect, but you’ll need a basic knowledge of how things work to create sustainability in your career or business. This is a significant requirement now. Take it; it’s better for you. Age is also not a factor.
The fastest way to build a high-demand skill is to learn a tech skill. This also allows you to be at the forefront of technological advancement.
By the way, if you want to start a tech career, I have a free guide to help you do so. Check it out here.
Remember, money will always flow in the direction of value. All the people around you have money but cannot give it to you unless you have something of value to make them release it.
Investing in yourself is all you need to make as much money as you want.
