The Great Reset: Rethinking Education, Employment, and the Future
The system that you and I grew up to inherit—the same system that our fathers and their fathers practised—is proven to no longer be sustainable.
Go to school, graduate, get a job, build a house, or retire. Please don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying going to school, graduating, or getting a job is bad.
I’m only saying it’s no longer sustainable.
If you study the last decade closely, you will realize that this hasn’t been the case (there happens to be a broken process in this entire system).
Why is this happening?
Is this a problem with the government or the high requirements of modernity?
I know bad governance has a role in all of these, especially in Africa.
But think about this carefully. 95% of these so-called leaders are old men who have been so engrossed in this same system that they have refused to see the light or change their beliefs.
How will a nation progress or develop if its leaders are blind to modernity and its requirements?
That’s a question I need you to think about.
Just so you know, unemployment is not only seen in Nigeria. Even the US and the UK are currently experiencing high unemployment rates. However, based on statistics, the US and UK unemployment rates are relatively lower than those in Nigeria.
But you need to be aware that unemployment is becoming a global concern, and that’s why this scares me.
So, what is the solution to this problem eating up our society?
What can we do about it?
As important as learning is, our educational system does not help. Most of our schools still use the same old structure and curriculum that our fathers used.
You will spend years of your life in a system that does not prepare you for the real world.
This is another reason why people go to school and graduate and still feel lost: All that they have been taught is not what is required to survive in the world of work.
Technology is moving rapidly, and there will be severe consequences if we can’t keep up.
My friend, so that you know, I’m not just ranting here; these honest and sincere issues and questions keep me up at night.
I’m seeking answers to these questions daily because I care about my future and that of my kids, and I know you care about yours, too.
So what is the solution? You may be asking.
My friend, the only solution is to be ready to unlearn all those old beliefs that you grew up to learn and live by.
Life is supposed to be enjoyable when you do the things that you love, not the ones that society has assigned to you by default.
Self-education is the key and solution.
With the power of technology, you can learn anything and be anything you choose to be. All you need is the right mindset and attitude.
Adopt a growth mindset.
Learn and master technology.
Set your own goals.
Pursue your dreams.
Understand the one-person business model.
Embrace entrepreneurship.
Partner with the Holy Spirit for ideas (if you practice the Christian faith like myself).
If you can dedicate 8 or even more hours to someone else’s business that has been branded as a job and fail to devote 1 or 2 hours to your personal development daily, it’s only a matter of time before you crumble.
Please try to reread the above statement to understand it. Thank you.
Back to what I was saying: These are my personal beliefs. If they resonate with yours, good. If they don’t, better.
But I will keep saying it. Your only way out is through continuous learning, a growth mindset, and personal development. All these are components of self-education.
Your only competition is you.
Push to have a better vision of yourself every day.
Prioritize YOU (your personal development).
There’s power in opportunity. Opportunity is how men accumulate and gather wealth.
But what happens when there’s opportunity but no capacity?
This is where personal development comes into play because it is how you can build capacity.
Personal development is about building capacity for whatever opportunity God brings your way. Opportunities will always present themselves, but when they do, will you be ready to take them on?
There is what I like to call the capacity scale. It is a system (more like a personal rule) that I have used repeatedly.
This rule states that:
“To attract more opportunities from the universe, you must build more capacity to accommodate those opportunities.”
You have to know that opportunities will be presented to you throughout your life; I can bet anything on this.
Your capacity per time will determine whether you can leverage those opportunities.
One secret I can tell you for free is that it is dangerous to miss out on opportunities when they come because opportunities are unique in nature. Some will change your life, while others will take you a step further or place you in the right direction.
So, my friend, amid chaos and the future of the unknown, your compass is self-education. This includes your ability to leverage technology to learn any skill and learn it fast, adopt a growth mindset, and prioritize your personal development.
Until I talk to you again, keep growing.
Peace out.
